Count, compare, take away, and find a hidden part with Adam.

1. Count the animals

Touch each animal once while you count out loud.

Try: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There are 5 ducks.

Pause and ask: How many friends are playing?

Look at two groups. Ask which has more, which has fewer, or whether they are equal.

Try: 4 cows and 2 horses. Which group has more?

Pause and ask: How did you know?

Move some animals to the barn, then count what is still in the meadow.

Try: 6 pigs are here. 2 go to the barn. How many stay?

Pause and ask: What changed when the pigs moved?

See part of the group and think about the part you cannot see.

Try: We have 5 goats in all. 3 are outside eating grass, and the rest are inside the barn.

Pause and ask: How many goats are inside the barn?
