Hear the sound, blend the word, and hop along the number line.

1. Find the sound

Listen to a simple word such as sun. Focus on one sound position at a time.

Try: In the word sun, find the very first sound: /s/.

Pause and ask: What beginning sound did you hear?

Look at one team at a time: sh in ship, ch in chin, or th in thin.

Pause and ask: Which team do you see?

Say each sound, then sweep them together: s - u - n, sun.

Pause and ask: Can you say the whole word?

Find 7 and 12 on a 0 to 20 number line. Count forward to see which number is greater.

Pause and ask: Which number is farther along?
